Widely considered the greatest ocean liner ever built, the SS Normandie entered service in May 1935 as the largest, fastest, and most lavishly decorated passenger ship afloat, winning the Blue Riband on her maiden voyage from Le Havre to New York in just four days and three hours, the first French ship ever to claim the prize.

Her Art Deco interiors were so extravagant that her first-class dining room was longer than the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles.

Her story ended not in battle but in farce, seized by the US Navy in 1942 and renamed USS Lafayette, she caught fire during conversion to a troopship and capsized in the Hudson River at Pier 88, where she was eventually scrapped in 1946.

This free 276-part LEGO MOC is an early BOBBY BRIX design with deliberately exaggerated proportions, a wider and stockier interpretation of the Normandie's hull.
