Nicknamed the "Blue Ghost" by Japanese propagandist Tokyo Rose because she kept returning to battle despite being reported sunk four times, the USS Lexington CV-16 was commissioned in February 1943 as a replacement for the CV-2 Lexington lost at the Battle of the Coral Sea.
It served as Admiral Marc Mitscher's flagship through virtually every major Pacific campaign from Tarawa to Tokyo, earned 11 battle stars and the Presidential Unit Citation, and went on to become the last Essex-class carrier in active service before her final decommissioning in 1991.
She is now preserved as a National Historic Landmark museum ship in Corpus Christi, Texas. This free 122-part mini-scale LEGO MOC recreates her post-conversion form without the original funnel, featuring a detailed camouflage flight deck pattern.
