The first aircraft carrier ever commissioned by the United States Navy and the ship that trained an entire generation of carrier aviators. The USS Langley CV-1 was converted from the coal collier USS Jupiter and recommissioned on March 20, 1922, nicknamed the "Covered Wagon" by her crew for her distinctive flat-decked silhouette.
It was from her deck that the US Navy's first carrier takeoff and landing were conducted in October 1922, pioneering the catapult, arresting gear, and deck handling techniques that every subsequent American carrier would depend on. She was scuttled by her own escorts on February 27, 1942, after taking five bomb hits from Japanese aircraft while ferrying P-40 fighters to Java.
This free 65-part mini-scale LEGO MOC is the first aircraft carrier design ever published by BOBBY BRIX, part of the original 2017 warship series.
