HISTORY
The SS Duca d’Aosta was an Italian passenger liner launched on 29 September 1908 by Cantieri Navale Siciliani in Palermo. Operated by Lloyd Sabaudo, the ship sailed transatlantic routes between Genoa, Naples, and New York, later expanding service to South America. She could accommodate up to 1,836 passengers. During World War I, Duca d’Aosta was chartered by the U.S. Navy in May 1918 and completed five transatlantic missions transporting American troops to Europe as part of the Cruiser and Transport Force.
After the war, she returned to civilian service, continuing operations through the 1920s. The ship was decommissioned and scrapped in February 1929, concluding a career that combined peacetime passenger travel with wartime service.
