The largest and most powerfully armed battleship ever built: the Yamato was laid down in secrecy in 1937 and commissioned nine days after Pearl Harbor. The vessel stretched 263 metres in length and displaced nearly 72,000 tonnes with nine 460mm guns firing 1.5-tonne shells over 40 kilometres.
Admiral Yamamoto directed the fleet from her bridge at the Battle of Midway in 1942. On April 7, 1945, she was sent on a one-way mission to Okinawa with fuel only for the outward voyage, and was sunk by American carrier aircraft in under two hours after absorbing 13 torpedoes and six bomb hits, taking 2,498 of her 2,778 crew to the bottom with her.
This free 95-part micro-scale LEGO MOC recreates the most powerful battleship in history.
