This LEGO MOC has become a staple in the MOC community and The Bobby Brix Channel. Being the most viewed video on the YouTube Channel, this design commemorates the HMHS Britannic in her prime-hospital ship days.
Note: the custom sticker designs are for illustrative purposes only, you can make the custom decals with some paper or custom printed stickers at home.
HISTORY
HMHS Britannic was the third and largest of the Olympic-class ocean liners built by Harland and Wolff in Belfast for the White Star Line. Launched in February 1914, she measured 269 meters in length. Initially intended as a civilian passenger liner, Britannic was requisitioned by the British government in 1915 during World War I and converted into a hospital ship before entering commercial service. She was fitted with medical wards, operating rooms, and could carry over 3,000 wounded soldiers.
On November 21, 1916, while en route to collect wounded soldiers from the Middle East, Britannic struck a mine in the Kea Channel in the Aegean Sea and sank in just 55 minutes. Of the 1,065 people on board, 30 lives were lost - many due to lifeboats being launched too early and pulled into the still-spinning propellers. Unlike her sister ship Titanic, the Britannic had improved safety features such as more lifeboats and a double hull, but these were not enough to save her. Her wreck was discovered in 1975 and remains one of the largest ocean liners ever lost at sea.
