With its maiden flight on February 11, 2002, the Airbus A340-500 was purpose-built for routes that no other commercial airliner could fly nonstop. It was capable of carrying up to 313 passengers across 9,000 nautical miles on four Rolls-Royce Trent 556 engines.

Singapore Airlines used it to launch flight SQ21 from Singapore to Newark in 2004, then the world's longest scheduled nonstop commercial flight at 8,285 nautical miles and up to 18 hours and 45 minutes in the air.

With only 34 aircraft delivered before fuel economics killed the programme, it remains one of the rarest widebody airliners ever built, a pioneer of ultra-long-haul travel later replaced on those same routes by the A350-900ULR.

This free 79-part micro-scale LEGO MOC recreates it at approximately 1:350 scale in Airbus house livery.
