Commissioned in 1941 and captured nearly intact on June 4, 1944 by a US Navy task group in the Atlantic, the U-505 was the first enemy warship seized by the US Navy on the high seas since 1815.
Aboard were German codebooks and an Enigma cipher machine that gave the Allies critical intelligence for the remainder of the Battle of the Atlantic. Today she is preserved as a National Historic Landmark at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, the only German submarine in the United States.
This free 56-part micro-scale LEGO MOC is the original early version of the build, later remastered in 2021, and works perfectly in any small naval diorama.
