One of the most precisely engineered structures in the ancient world, El Castillo at Chichén Itzá was built by the Maya between the 8th and 12th centuries CE with 91 steps on each of its four sides totalling exactly 365, one for every day of the solar year.
Twice a year at the spring and autumn equinoxes, the setting sun casts seven triangular shadows down the northern staircase that connect to the carved serpent head at the base, creating the illusion of Kukulcán, the feathered serpent deity, descending to earth.
This 142-part micro-scale LEGO MOC recreates the pyramid's iconic stepped silhouette using clever building techniques to capture the staircase design at its compact size.
