Launched in 1939 and sponsored at her christening by First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, the SS America was designed by naval architect William Francis Gibbs as the flagship of the United States Lines, transported over 350,000 troops as USS West Point during World War II, and spent the following decades accumulating more names than almost any other ship in history: America, West Point, Australis, Italis, Noga, Alferdoss, and finally American Star, before running aground off Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands in 1994 while under tow to the breakers.

This 1:1000 scale LEGO MOC recreates her in her final form as the SS Italis, the name she carried briefly under Italian ownership in 1978 before her long decline.
