The deadliest maritime disaster in North American waters during World War II, the SS Caribou was torpedoed by German submarine U-69 at 3:51 am on October 14, 1942, while crossing the Cabot Strait from North Sydney to Port aux Basques under escort by the minesweeper HMCS Grandmère.

She sank in under five minutes, taking 137 of the 237 people aboard including 10 children, bringing the war home to Newfoundland in the most devastating way possible. Launched in 1925 and the essential link between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland for nearly two decades, her loss shocked Canada and remains one of the country's most tragic wartime memories. This free 54-part LEGO MOC recreates her at approximately 1:1000 scale.
