At 458.45 metres long and with a fully loaded displacement of 657,019 tonnes, the Seawise Giant was not only the largest ship ever built but the largest self-propelled object in human history, too wide and heavy for the English Channel and too deep-draughted for the Suez Canal, the Panama Canal, or most of the world's major ports.
Built in Japan in 1979 and enlarged to her record-breaking dimensions by C.Y. Tung of Orient Overseas Container Line, she was struck by Iraqi Exocet missiles in May 1988 while carrying Iranian crude oil in the Strait of Hormuz.
She was declared a constructive total loss and salvaged from the Persian Gulf. She was repaired in Singapore at a cost of millions, and returned to service under a succession of names before being scrapped in India in 2010.
This LEGO MOC recreates this behemoth of a ship at 1:2000 scale.
