Built at Barrow-in-Furness by Vickers and completed in 1913, the Kongo was the last capital ship Japan ever ordered from a foreign shipyard and the most powerful battlecruiser in the world at her launch.
Reconstructed twice during the interwar years, she emerged as a fast battleship capable of 30 knots, making her uniquely valuable throughout World War II for escorting carrier groups and supporting amphibious operations from Malaya to Guadalcanal.
On November 21, 1944, she became the only Japanese battleship sunk by a submarine when USS Sealion torpedoed her in the Formosa Strait. She was also the last battleship in history to be sunk by one.
This free 93-part micro-scale LEGO MOC recreates her storied career from battlecruiser origins to fast battleship.
