On November 15, 2017, the ARA San Juan reported water flooding through its snorkel and shorting out the forward battery compartment before going silent in the South Atlantic, 240 nautical miles off the Patagonian coast, with all 44 crew members aboard including Argentina's first female submariner.

A multinational search involving ships and aircraft from a dozen nations found nothing for a year until Ocean Infinity located the wreck at 907 metres depth, its hull broken apart by what investigators believe was an implosion, making it the worst submarine disaster since the loss of Russia's Kursk in 2000.

Built in West Germany in 1983 as a TR-1700 class diesel-electric submarine and commissioned in 1985, she had served the Argentine Navy for over three decades.

This 1:260 scale LEGO MOC is a tribute to her crew, the first BOBBY BRIX SubMayRine 2026 model and the first Argentine submarine in the collection, featuring a display stand compatible with all other BOBBY BRIX 1:260 and 1:1000 scale models.
