Brickships1912 Reviewed Our SS Edmund Fitzgerald MOC Kit!

In June 2025, The Bobby Brix Channel sent a custom Gobricks MOC kit of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald to a fellow brick ship enthusiast and YouTuber: Brickships1912. Known for making amazing LEGO ship builds, he agreed to film an unboxing and review of our kit on his YouTube channel!

QUICK HISTORY

The SS Edmund Fitzgerald was a massive Great Lakes freighter, renowned as one of the largest ships to traverse the region during its time. Launched in 1958 the ship was primarily used to transport iron ore across the Great Lakes, making it an essential part of the industrial supply chain.

Tragically, the Edmund Fitzgerald sank during a fierce storm on Lake Superior on November 10, 1975, with the loss of all 29 crew members. Its sudden disappearance remains one of the most enduring maritime mysteries of the Great Lakes.
The incident also inspired Gordon Lightfoot's famous ballad: "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald".

REVIEW SUMMARY

Packaging and Instructions

  • The kit arrives in an unbranded yellow zip-lock bag with the word "Building Block MOC" written on them.
  • The parts are packed in a small single-use plastic bag (similar to what LEGO does for their sets).
  • The instructions are fully digital, downloadable as a PDF - no printed manual included. This format is faster and allows mobile/tablet viewing while building.

Brick Quality

  • These are Gobricks, not LEGO, but the quality is “almost on par with LEGO,” as Brickships1912 explains.
  • Pieces snap together well, although a few can be slightly tight.
  • He praises the durability and stability of the completed build.

"I am very, very happy with how that looks"

The video review includes a cool time-lapse footage showing the entire build process from the first to the last brick. Brickships1912 also features a special LEGO Captain Minifigure as a unique display item to go with the SS Edmund Fitzgerald - and we like it!
